Rainbow coloured handmade slotted quilling tools

I made these rainbow coloured quilling tools about a week ago and I just love how they turned out! The tools were of course handmade by yours truly. I'm really happy with the latest look of my handmade slotted quilling tools. They are so cheerful and bright. I think I am now better at making them compared to the first try. There is always room for improvement. :)

I hand coloured all the rainbow coloured quilling tools instead of using pattern paper like I did for the black gold quilling tools. Although this rainbow quilling tool takes a little bit more time to make, I really enjoyed it. It was a good experiment. I'm glad it worked out.

After making these rainbow quilling tools I began to experiment more with other designs and it's just endless. There is just so many types of designs that I can insert in the quilling tool. But I guess for now I have to limit the designs to just making them for personal use because it's not as easy to mass produce them. I can only do a few of them a day. I'm not a machine. My hands do hurt in the process of making them.

For now, simple designs is all I'm concentrating on. Nothing overly fancy. Ever since I've been making these quilling tools, I hardly have the time to make handmade cards. It's so frustrating not being able to multitask as much as I want to. Hopefully I can make some cards soon. Or books! Gosh, I miss making the books the most!!

Do check out the video I made about the rainbow coloured quilling tools below and my new white glue bottle that I have added in my new quilling kit. Thank you!!

My new handmade slotted quilling tool

I remembered what it felt like last year when I first got the idea of making my own handmade slotted quilling tools. I tried to DIY it all by myself. I felt like an inventor or something! haha! Although it was not the best invention ever as it had many flaws, I have to admit, I kept the dream alive and kept on experimenting on it. I didn't stop thinking of ways to make the invention better.

This year, after all the experiments I had done over the months, I finally created another handmade slotted quilling tool to replace the first invention. This one had a better grip, better handling and felt so comfortable when turning the tool over and over. Totally different feeling compared to the first invention.

The major difference in this one is that the plastic handle itself is not curved like the one before. It's almost as straight as any normal standard slotted quilling tool. So it makes it more comfortable when using it to quill. The handle is made of plastic but the filling inside the plastic has been replaced with a different material. The first invention had glitters and colourful beads in it. No more of those in this latest invention. One other good thing about it now is that I get to put my name inside the plastic tube too! Love that part! So those who buy the slotted quilling tool would know that it is handmade and who made it too :).

It was not easy for me to create something like this. I had wasted a lot of materials before I finally decided on the best method and design. Since the process of making the slotted quilling tool itself had to be done by hand, and not by any special machine, it takes time for me to get one done. It's a very interesting process and seeing the finished product gives me joy :). I don't think I will be able to mass produce the slotted quilling tools like other companies do as I am doing this alone and am not in the best of health. I'm just helping out those in need of affordable slotted quilling tools while I still can :).

Actually the initial idea of creating my own slotted quilling tools came about when a lot of people contacted me to ask about where they can buy slotted quilling tools that is more affordable for them. Standard slotted quilling tools in the market can be quite expensive, especially if they are branded. But they are undeniably better in quality. Sometimes, it also depends on how good you take care of them too. If you abuse them, they will eventually lasts a short period of time even though they are good in quality. So be nice to your tools and they will last longer ok? hehe!

I have to admit that I was one of those people who couldn't afford those standard slotted quilling tools back then. So I know how it feels to want to buy a craft tool and yet have to reserve that feeling till I had enough money for it. I remembered how expensive my first slotted quilling tool was. I bought it at a fancy craft shop in Kuala Lumpur. Back then I didn't know much about quilling and only knew very little about it from my friends. I bought it anyways even though it was pricey because I knew I would never get the chance to buy it at my place. It is not easy finding craft tools here in Alor Setar.

I'm happy if my humble handmade slotted quilling tools can help people create beautiful quilling creations. That's all I ever wanted. To see people make pretty things without having to spend so much money. Quilling in my mind now is a craft that everyone can try to do. Everyone can afford to try it. There are numerous of ways you can find on the net to do it with or without a fancy quilling tool. You just have to keep the dream alive, believe in yourself and be creative in creating beautiful things. :)

Here's a video below to show you the slotted quilling tool in action and how well it works. Thank you for watching!! :)

Rainbow beads slotted quilling tool

I'm getting the hang of making these slotted quilling tools now.....so far, it's been quite thrilling :). Especially the part of arranging the different colours of beads inside the plastic tube. This one was a request from a customer of mine. She showed me the different colours of beads that she would love for her quilling tool and I was very happy to do it for her.

Hope to make more in future with other colour combinations. ;)

Do check out the video below to view how to use this slotted quilling tool :)

My own DIY slotted quilling tool

Just a few days ago I was thinking of making my own slotted quilling tools. At first it was just for fun....(as if I didn't have enough quilling tools in my collection already! hehehehehe).....yes I have plenty of different designs of slotted quilling tools but the curiosity to find out how to make a slotted quilling tool just wouldn't go away . I made some using some old pens and a needle like the photo you see below.

But then, the obsession to make better ones came. Of course the minute that thought came to mind, I had to think of ways of doing it and I came up with the design that you see at the first two photos above. As you can see, the handle of the tool is plastic and it is filled with gold and silver glitters. I just love the effect!

I even made some using beads like the ones below. I simply had fun making them! I used all the beads that I have in my collection. I haven't been using them for a long time and I thought it would be cool to try it out for the slotted quilling tool.

So what do you think? ;)

The Beehive technique

I'm so excited!! I just wanted to share something today with everyone, something that I found out about yesterday. It's a new quilling technique called "The Beehive" which I found out from my fellow quilling blogger friend Pritesh Ananth Krishnan from Quilling Me Softly. She shared the video tutorial on her Facebook. I checked it out and I'm so loving it now! Yes! It's actually a new technique of quilling invented by Miss Susan from Susan Quilling Cards. Do check out her blog at the link for more designs of Beehive quilling technique that she shares at her blog. They are all so beautiful! It's just so inspiring to see all her artwork. I just had to give it a try myself last night and it worked! Pritesh's video tutorial was easy to follow. Check out her video tutorial at her blog.

When I first gave it a try I find that it was kinda tricky at first to put the quilled yellow part inside the orange quilled petal. Gotta be careful so that it doesn't get pinched so bad when I try to squeeze it all inside the petal. The twisted yellow paper was done just by using the slotted quilling tool. But I have to say it's so fun to make this flower. Definitely can be very addictive too! hihi!

The length of the quilling paper that I used for the petal is 29.7cm and the same goes for the twisted yellow paper inside the petal. I haven't tried to make them in smaller sizes though. Will try to make the petals smaller and see how it turns out. Because the one I made here is pretty big in size as you can see from the photo above where I placed the flower on my hand. :)

I haven't the time to make a card using this flower yet. No time to do so right now. I just love making different types of flowers lately but not so much in the mood of making the cards....hehehe *so lazy*.....just enjoy the process of making the flowers.....lots and lots of flowers. ;) Hope you'll give it a try too this coming weekend!! It's fun!! :D

Slotted paper quilling tool

Interested in a slotted paper quilling tool? Well, I have good news for everyone out there who are fans of quilling! I'm  now selling this quilling tool! :) It's about 12cm in length, with a brass needle slot and a plastic blue marble like pattern handle.

Honestly, I really love this quilling tool.!! It's definitely my favourite quilling tool now amongst my collection of quilling tools. It's so comfortable to use because of the long plastic handle and I really love the slotted part that is quite long in length compared to the one I bought when I first started to learn how to quill. It just makes quilling big coils of quilling paper a lot easier, in my personal opinion. The tight gap of the slot makes it easy for the quilling paper to stick and coil around it. No slips at all. Love it! :) I even decorated the quilling tool with a silver lining dark blue ribbon around the handle just to make it look a little prettier hehehe.

Below is a video tutorial that I made on how I use this slotted quilling tool. Do check it out ;)

So if you are interested to get this lovely quilling tool, do email me for details on how to purchase them at my email address: inaabdul_21@yahoo.com

Quilling

I've wanted to do this and add this quilling technique into my card collection for a long time already. I've done this technique before....yup.....long long time ago in a galaxy far far away hahahaha.......which means, I haven't done this technique in quite a long time. Back then when I first started learning how to make cards, I didn't even have the proper tools to do it. I just rolled up the strips of paper and formed it into different quilling shapes.

Last couple of months ago when I made a trip to Kuala Lumpur, I went to search for craft tools and stumbled upon this quilling tool set at Scrapbook Memories in One Utama, Damansara. You should have looked at my reaction when I first saw it! I almost jumped up with joy! Tried to contain myself from screaming and doing the dance of joy! hahaha! I never thought I would find it there. I thought I might have to order them online someday......never occurred to me that it would be available in Kuala Lumpur. How ignorant of me! huhuhuhuhu.......oh well....at least I got it at last!

But till now I have not yet made any designs from it.....huhuhuhu......the flowers you see at the photo above is the only thing I've done so far. Sigh.... :I.  I've been so busy, that I don't have time to try out this new technique. I need to study how to do it as well......thank God for the online tutorials!! Yup, there are lots of them online....at Youtube and other websites. Just Google and you'll get a lot of websites that gives a lot of great step by step instructions on how to start quilling.

One thing though that I realised.....without that small little tool......you'll find it hard to do it....yes indeed. Coz I've tried doing it before without the tool and it was so slow! This tool definitely helps making it fast and easy. If you wanna know more about quilling....check out the websites below. There is a whole bunch of great infos there for us to start quilling. :)

Below is a slotted quilling tool that I am currently selling at my blog:
