Craft gathering at Scrap-N-Crop!

Gosh! A lot has happened since the last time I blogged here. February is coming to an end and I just had to blog about something for this month and what better story to tell than blogging about the craft gathering I attended last Saturday. It was held at a craft store called Scrap-n-Crop at Bandar Sg. Long, Kajang on the 22nd of February. We were there from 11.00AM till about 5.00PM. 6 hours of non stop awesomeness!!

I was such in a hurry to go, so excited....so much so that I forgot to bring my camera to the gathering! I left it at my hotel room.....luckily there were others who brought theirs and the photos above were taken by my fellow crafters, Hambali and also Hazira. Thank you to both of you for letting me use the photos for this post.

It was really memorable. It was a blast! I haven't had so much fun like that in a long time. I'm so happy that my friend Sazalina, invited me to join in the fun. I wasn't too sure if I could attend it in the beginning since I have problems traveling at the moment....especially if it's long distance. Getting something to eat is always an issue plus my feet is killing me....but I really was strict in taking care of my health before the trip so I was good to go!

I did prepared something to swap with another fellow crafter. Each one of us were asked to prepare one and I made an A6 size handbound book with French stitch binding. It looks like the photo below. The book went to Dayang Marina. I met her for the first time on that day. I hope she will take good care of my book hehehehe! ;) I met many new crafters that day. Really lovely!

In return I got a swap from Asma' Ahmad Bahari....who is one of my favourite Malaysian crafter....she made a Daisy stitch hand-bound book. It's so cute....and the best part is that she made it on the gathering day itself and I had the chance to look at how it was done. Below is the book she made.

Oh! By the way....I also got the chance to learn how to do the Daisy stitch hand-bound book from Asma'.....I thought it was going to be difficult to do but I was so happy that it wasn't as tough as I thought it would be. I didn't get to decorate it much....made a very simple one! Below is the book I made during the gathering....in fact it was the only thing I did...LOL!!! Because I spend a lot of my time teaching other crafters how to make the French stitch hand-bound book. It was a lot of fun! Although I got so nervous at one point, my hands were shaking. We had a good laugh about that. Perhaps it was also because I was hungry. Hahahaha!

I also had the chance to shop at the craft store after the gathering was over. The place is like heaven....I think I can spend hours there and not get bored at all. Seriously! There's still a lot of things there I didn't get the chance to explore. I hope to get to join more craft gatherings in future. It's so much fun to learn new things from other fellow crafters. ;)

Swap and shop!

Lin and Miyyah posing with our swap cards  :)

Quilled card and craft goodies from Miyyah :) Love them!!

YES!!!! I got the chance to meet up with my crafty friends recently during my trip to KL. Although it was quite a brief meeting, still we managed to do a few wonderful things together. One of the things  that we did was to swap cards with each other. :) Love that!

This time around I swapped cards with Miyyah from Miyyah@Kertas and also with Sazalina from Share.Your.Love.With.Cards. But Miyyah gave me more than just a card. She gave me so many craft goodies all wrapped up in a package together with her quilled flower card! Heaven! :)

This is the card I received from Sazalina. Isn't it so beautiful? I love the beads that are used to decorate the card. Most of her cards have those type of beads decorated on it. I simply adore the idea :).

These are the craft goodies I received from her a few weeks before the meeting....so sweet! Love the ribbons especially! :)

Another activity that we did other than swapping cards was trying out Sazalina's Cuttlebug machine while having lunch at McDonalds! hehe! Here is a photo of Sazalina with her Cuttlebug. I love that machine!!! And I even got the chance to use it during our meeting. It was so cool and I was so super excited about trying it out for the first time.

Here is a photo of me looking as giddy as a school girl when trying out the Cuttlebug machine hehehe! Can't explain how excited I was playing with it. It's like a dream come true! hehe! Me and Miyyah had no idea how to use it....we were totally clueless. But we got lessons from Sazalina on how to use it and  it was a surprise to us that it's such an easy machine to use. It's so cool! I love that it can cut so many types of design and emboss patterns on  the paper too using the variety of templates available. I can play with it all day!! I want one!!!! :D

After the brief lunch, we headed towards Kajang where Sazalina took us to visit a craft store called Scrap n Crop. It's in a housing area. The minute we entered the house I was so amazed by the amount of craft tools and materials sold there! I went googoogaga and lalalalalalala! hahaha! It was one of those moments when you feel like you just got hit by the love bug. Fell head over heels over the many many craft items showcased there. I could hear my head playing the Frank Sinatra's song......"Heaven....I'm in heaven.....and my heart beats so that I could hardly speak......" heheh! :D

I didn't take any photos while I was there. I was too busy looking for what to buy and what are the latest cool craft items there...hehehe! What can I say....all I could think of is....can I "camp" here?? Feels like there isn't enough time for us to spend there. Before we know it, it was already time to go home huhuhu! I did manage to get me some stamps though from Scrap n Crop hehe!

As you can see, I didn't buy a lot....just some stamps to inspire me hehe! There were so many clear stamps there that I wish I could own. They are so beautiful!! But unfortunately very very expensive for me to buy. So I just kept admiring them up close hehehe! I definitely had a great time there and honestly I just didn't want to go home. I hope to be able to go there again someday!! :)

A personal thank you to Sazalina..... I couldn't have gone to Scrap n Crop without your help. I really appreciate it!! We must do this again!!!! :) Thank you for everything dear! hehe!

Although the meeting was quite rushing....we did everything in a hurry because of the limited time we had. I truly enjoyed the company. Thank you Saza...Miyyah and Ayin.....hope to meet you girls again soon!! And hopefully we can spend more time crafting together! :)

QUILLING GET TOGETHER V1.0

*Photo above taken from Miyyah@Kertas Facebook fan page.

Last Sunday, 3rd of October 2010, 11 people attended the quilling get together v1.0 at KLCC. We all met for the first time at the KLCC park around 10.00 in the morning. I must say this was one of the most exciting event of the year for me. I've never been to a quilling event like this before or any kind of craft event like this. It was great that I got to meet up with craft enthusiasts who share the same interests as I do. We all somehow connected so well instantly.....and I believe it's all because of our love for crafting.

After gathering at the park, we then proceeded to find a good place inside KLCC where we can quill comfortably. In the end, we decided to do it at KFC. :) Luckily the management did not bother us at all for quilling at their place. I bet that a lot of people who came to eat there were surprised to see us there, not eating and just quilling for hours!! I didn't eat at all......time just flew by so fast.....I didn't feel  the hunger until it was time for us to leave. I can't describe to you how hungry I was when it was over hehehehe!

Most of them who attended this get together brought their own tools, paper and other embellishments for the card making. I only managed to bring very little stuff along with me since I took the bus to KL and couldn't bring much craft stuff along with me. So luckily they were kind enough to share their craft materials for everyone to use. They even shredded the paper in advance for us to quill. Gosh! There were so many paper everywhere on the table.....so colorful too!!

Since I didn't get enough sleep the night before so when I was there for the get together, I was kinda like a zombie.....but tried my best to stay awake and alert for this event hehehe. I only managed to make one card on that day. I was super slow huhuhuhu..... I must say that those who tried their hand for the first time at quilling were wonderful! I was amazed at how quick they were at learning this technique and how creative they were too. :) I was like struggling to finish just one. Moreover, I couldn't decide what kind of design I was going to do. That's always my problem when it comes to designing.....always the case of not being able to decide what color I was going to use and how I would do the layout...... hahahaha......Below is the card I made using papers provided by Asma' and Sazalina :) Thank you girls!!

*Noticed how the three of us dressed up in blue??!! I love it!!!! ;)

Some of those who attended this quilling get together were those whom I admired too. I remember how I started quilling in the first place. It was all inspired by Miss Najmiyyah or better known as Miyyah from Miyyah@Kertas. When I saw her blog for the first time, I was super excited especially since she is from Malaysia. Because I've never known a quilling artist from Malaysia before. I was so proud of her! :) On that day, she taught us all how to make a new technique in quilling. Something that I've never tried doing before. We all learned from her how to make the wings of a butterfly! Using what she called as the alternate loop technique. It was so cool! I loved it! But I was so slow at doing it hehehe. I need to practice more! :)

I was also happy to meet my other fellow quilling artists, Miss Asma' from Simple Rhyme whom I've been friends with online for quite sometime now. So it was so great to be able to meet her in person. Her quilled artwork has always been so beautiful and I admire her work a lot! We even get to swap cards together on that day! Yay! I am so happy about that! :)

*Here I am with Asma' exchanging words in our cards that we wish to swap with :)

I'm also happy that I was able to quill with Miss Tania :) I remember when I first started doing this online business, she was the first customer to buy my cards online. :) On that day, she managed to make 3 quilled cards! She's so fast! hehehe! She makes her own handmade cards these days and doing it well too! :) Way to go Tania!

 *Me and Tania

I really had a great time!! I wish we can do this again one day. There were so much to say and do.....ideas to share with too. Time was so very limited. How wonderful if we can do this everyday :). I miss quilling with  all my new quilling friends :'(. I feel so blessed to be able to attend such an event and met so many lovely people. I'll never ever forget this first quilling get together.....it will remain in my memory forever.
